On the News
Thought it was time for some more articles that would give you a flavor for what's big right now.
The first is an AP story on Umbilical Cord Blood Stem cells that came out this morning (this would be the amazing ethical variety that doesn't demand the killing of human embryos to work!). The AP reporter did a pretty good job of portraying these stem cells as separate from bone marrow cells and as effective for treatments! http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/10/16/ap/tech/mainD8KPK4G80.shtml
The second is a Robert Novak story on Missouri's upcoming vote to amend their constitution to permit Human Cloning. Cloning is a big deal and it's been an ugly fight - both sides use "ban on cloning" language - but one side is OK with cloning and then destroying the product of the cloning process - a process called both 'clone and kill" and also "SCNT" (Somatic Cell Nuclear Transfer) which is a process of so called "therapeutic cloning" though I don't think the embryo appreciates the therapy very much....since at the end of the process he or she winds up, well unequivocally dead. :( The other side (the pro-life side) is saying cloning of any human at any time is unacceptable.
It's pretty bad and it looks like the pro-lifers are most likely going to lose - why anyone thinks adding a specific requirement to your constitution to fund not only embryo-destructive research, but also to specifically permit human cloning is beyond me.

Anyway, there's quite a lot of other issues going on as well, but these two are news-worthy and I thought these stories might be of interest to you.
